On November 15th, the first drafting and opening meeting of the "Design Standards for Aging friendly Decoration and Decoration of Residential Buildings" was held at the current decoration conference. The "Design Standards for Aging friendly Decoration and Decoration of Residential Buildings" jointly edited by the Residential Decoration and Parts Industry Branch of the China Building Decoration Association and Beijing Jinchao Decoration Design Co., Ltd. has been officially approved and approved. This important milestone signifies that China is about to usher in a new standard in the field of aging friendly residential decoration, providing more comprehensive and humanized design norms to improve the quality of life of the elderly. This meeting brought together well-known home decoration enterprises from across the country to provide suggestions and suggestions for the formulation of this standard.

According to statistical data, as of the end of 2021, the total number of elderly people aged 60 and above in China has exceeded 267 million, accounting for 18.9% of the population. With the increasing aging of the population, paying attention to the quality of life of the elderly population has become a key social task. Home care is the first choice for elderly people in China, but as they age, their physical functions decline. Even if they stay at home without leaving, there may be risks such as falling due to slippery floors, inconvenient bathing, and accidentally being hit by furniture corners. Therefore, it is necessary to age appropriate renovation of the home environment to provide maximum convenience and safety for the elderly, thereby improving their quality of life.

At the meeting, Hu Yanan, Secretary General of the Housing Industry Branch of the China Association for Home Decoration, stated that currently, there is no unified standard for age friendly decoration design in the home decoration industry. In the context of the national emphasis on age friendly design, both public facilities and community renovation have seen age friendly designs. Therefore, the opening meeting of the "Design Standards for Aging friendly Decoration and Decoration of Residential Buildings" not only fills the industry gap, but also provides strong reference and basis for the next development of home decoration enterprises. As the editor in chief of the Standard, Modern Decoration has taken the lead in the field of aging friendly decoration and has accumulated a wealth of experience and practical cases, which is the first foundation for the compilation of the Standard. At the same time, Professor Zhao Xiaozheng, an authoritative expert in the field of elderly care, was also invited to participate in the process of preparing the Standard, providing support for its preparation. The third foundation is the widespread attention of top companies in the industry, which fully demonstrates that the importance of aging friendly design is increasing day by day. We hope that through the joint efforts of the entire industry, we can solve the pain points and bottlenecks in aging friendly design and make the Standards more perfect and feasible.

Chen Xin, Deputy Director of the Comprehensive Department of the China Association of Building Decoration, stated at the meeting that aging has become a hot topic in society. In order to ensure equal, full, and convenient participation and integration of people with disabilities and the elderly into social life, the "Measures for Accessible Environment Construction of the People's Republic of China" will be officially implemented from September 1, 2023. In response to the national call to promote elderly friendly and accessible construction, the China Association of Building Decoration has also issued two relevant standards on elderly friendly aspects. I hope that the compilation of the "Design Standards for Aging friendly Decoration and Decoration of Residential Buildings" will play a leading and demonstrative role in the home decoration industry, and jointly promote the development of accessibility and aging friendly decoration in the industry.

At the meeting, Dai Jiangping, the Chairman of Contemporary Decoration, the editor in chief of "Standards", stated that the future standards for home care interior design in China need to be jointly formulated by all home decorators. This is the responsibility and obligation of our home decoration enterprises. We believe that with everyone's unified thinking and concerted efforts, we can definitely complete the preparation work of "Standards" as soon as possible and promote the development of the industry. 

The "Design Standards for Aging friendly Decoration of Residential Buildings" will cover multiple aspects, including indoor environment, barrier free design, materials and components, aging friendly design, intelligent systems, etc., comprehensively and systematically regulating all aspects of aging friendly decoration. The launch of the "Design Standards for Aging friendly Decoration and Decoration of Residential Buildings" is undoubtedly an important milestone in the development of aging friendly residential buildings in China. In the future, we look forward to seeing more innovations and breakthroughs in aging friendly design, creating a more livable and enjoyable living environment for the elderly.
